Site Manager/Supervisory Recreation Specialist - Jim Creek

Summary of Duties: Incumbent is directly responsible for direct oversight of year-round operations and administration of recreation sites, facilities and equipment associated with the Jim Creek Recreation Area which includes, but is not limited to campgrounds, picnic areas, waterfront, pavilions, cabins and lodging, RV Parks, trails, resale, rentals, fitness center, and Alpine Tower. Maintains daily operational records detailing all income from fees and charges. Inspects facilities and equipment to ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and fire requirements. Incumbent is accountable for all facilities, equipment and supplies within area of responsibility, which includes regular cleaning, maintenance, repairs, security, purchasing, and inventory controls. Determines material, equipment, and supplies needed and makes recommendations for new or replacement equipment and small capitalization projects. Recommends fees and/or fee structure changes to Supervisor. Assists supervisor in developing, executing and monitoring the annual budget. Reviews financial reports, compares actual performance to budget and provides explanations for variances. Assists supervisor in establishing procedures, guidelines and operating instructions. The incumbent directly supervises a diverse work force of NAF civilians and volunteers. Depending on season, supervises 4-13 employees which include NF-03, NF-02, NA-05, NA-03, NA-02 positions, volunteers, and interns. Recruits, hires, trains, evaluates, schedules, disciplines, awards, and supervises subordinates in accordance with Human Resources and EEO policies and procedures. Assists the Community Recreation Program Manager and Community Recreation Programmer in developing, planning, coordinating, executing, evaluating, managing and publicizing a year-round outdoor recreation program such as educational classes, skill clinics, trips, outdoor camps and competitions; activities may include but are not limited to camping, backpacking, fishing, canoeing, kayaking, bicycling, cross country skiing etc. Performs other duties assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in the field of recreation or a related subject matter OR five years of related recreation experience to include at least three years of outdoor recreation experience, and at least one of program management or supervisory experience.
  • Knowledge in a variety of technical areas such as facility and grounds maintenance, boating, safety regulations, relevant specialized equipment, etc. Has knowledge of local geographical area. Has the ability to utilize resources effectively.
  • Possess supervisor, managerial and administrative skills necessary to accomplish the program’s mission.
  • Skill in performing multiple job duties with limited supervision. Ability to solve problems with skill, tact and resourcefulness.
  • Skill in communicating orally and in writing.

Conditions of Employment: Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion and maintenance of National Agency (NACI) background check. Must be able to obtain certifications in First Aid and CPR within the first 90 days on the job. Must possess a valid driver’s license.
